The next two classes were about the methods of application. We focused on learning the cutaneous/dermal/topical + inhalation modes of application. Ingestion is another method of application, but it is not covered in this course.
There are so many ways to apply essential oils topically, including [1]:
Body Oils
Creams + Lotions
Cleansers + Toners
Exfoliating Scrubs
Baths
Compress + Hot Towels
Salves
Gels
And several ways to apply them via inhalation. Direct inhalation includes:
Inhaling from the bottle
Inhaling using cotton ball or handkerchief
Direct palm inhalation
Inhaling from personal inhalers
Smelling salts
Steam inhalation
Indirect inhalation refers to Diffusion [2].
(1) Talking about inhalation in particular, where one of its most common benefits includes the emotional wellbeing. Something relevant my teacher shared sometime around then, quoting from her IG stories:
"Pay attention to when you are feeling like this and let it go. When we are consciously aware of tension we are holding, the body automatically releases it.
Deepen your breath.
Stretch.
Engage your senses.
Take a walk outside.
Listen to birdsongs or calming music.
Breathe in an essential oil."
– Holly Brandenberger
This instantly reminded me of “合一” (Oneness). When the mind and body are aligned, beautifully working together.
(2) And an instant realisation, how I would naturally:
Smell my palms before/after applying my body oil
Smell the bath salts before using them in my foot baths
(Naturally applying cutaneous + inhalation at once)
Product Application
We learned to make Aromatherapy Gel and Aromatherapy Salve in each class, respectively.

I adapted the "Botanical Perfume" recipe from our course recipe book and modified it by adding some Sweet Orange Essential Oil to suit my personal aromatic preference after smelling the blend.
